Bridges and Connections

Why have I included a few pictures of bridges on these pages?

I am a visual learner/processor and to me, a bridge is a perfect metaphor for learning. A bridge connects a traveler from one location to another. So too does learning. And, at times, we can’t see to the other side of the bridge. We have to have experience, knowledge or faith that this path will get us to where we want to go.

In learning, we build lots of connections. Connecting to each person. Connecting to past knowledge and experience (to anchor it). Connecting to stories, outcomes, new ideas. Learning is also about reflection – you don’t learn from hearing an instructor teach content, you learn by doing (practicing, reflecting, analyzing, etc.). From the facilitator’s voice to your brain to your action is the bridge to learning.

How else is learning connected to bridges? I’d love to hear from you!
